Oyster Bay Yacht Club Anniversary Dinner
A couple of weeks ago the Oyster Bay Yacht Club celebrated its 2nd Anniversary with a members and invited guests dinner that would have matched Manhattan’s Algonquin Round Table standards during its 70s and 80s heydays. Imagine dim lighting and beautiful candle-lit tables dressed with white linens that turned the dining room into a festive backdrop.
While jazz instrumentals played softly in the background, the evening began with a Champagne Reception, as Oyster Bay Yacht Club introduced a new sparkling cuvee from Spain, the Segura Viudas Brut Reserva. This is a Cava wine vinified according to méthode champenoise and aged in the bottle for up to 2 years.
The cuvee represents Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes grown in the renowned Penedès region of Spain, creating a outstanding crisp champagne flavor of floral creaminess.
The perfect match for this wine is reported to be Crab Cake appetizers, but our chefs decided to stay on the traditional side with a perfect appetizer-salad combination.
John Pugliese, former Director of Wine at Ritz Carlton Amelia Island and currently Wine Specialist with Transatlantic Wine and Spirits, headquartered in Tampa was the special expert guest for the evening, introducing and discussing the various featured wines and the reasons for their menu pairing. Especially his vineology expertise inspired many questions from a fully booked event audience. Oyster Bay Yacht Club members and guests had a memorable evening with a scrumptious 4 course meal, wonderful wine selections and lively conversations.
