Florida-Georgia Bash 2011 at OBYC
For those who don’t know, the Annual Florida-Georgia Football Game raises a lot of emotions in this northeast Florida part of the country. The rivalry between the two teams is huge and here on Amelia Island we’re kind of living on the quake line of the annual confrontation. Being an Atlanta favorite, Amelia Island is overrun by Georgia License plates in the days leading up to the big game and emotions, yet always friendly, run their course during the tailgate parties and afterwards.
Although always well attended, this year The Oyster Bay Yacht Club received a huge turnout for the Friday night Florida/Georgia Bash. Everyone came decked out in their team colors and with their dancing shoes on.
Chef Shawn and staff prepared another awesome buffet featuring gator bites and “mini dawgs”. In addition, the grill was smoking and all the spices were available to prepare the perfect steak during “Thrill on the Grill”.
If you haven’t met Chef Shawn, you had no difficulty picking him out in the crowd. He was the one in the Chef Jacket and Georgia Bulldogs Logo painted on his head. I am sure you will agree….to know him is to love him.
Clara and her staff were also in the team spirit and did a great job in keeping everyone happy.
Once everyone enjoyed dinner and was trying to find room for the orange & blue cake or the Georgia peach delight, the band started to play and what a treat it was.
Darren Ronan and his band had everyone on the dance floor! A huge thanks to Mike Lopiano for playing drums with the band! It’s always such a pleasure to have one of our very own sitting in with the band and entertain us.
No wonder many asked, when can we do it again? The answer is very soon…..so stay tuned for the next big event on November 19 when we will party on the Oyster Deck for the Annual OBYC Fishing Tournament. Click Here for the Program.
Oh and for those who want to make a note for posterity: This year it was a close game in favor of Georgia’s team with a final score of 24-20.
