2012 OBYC Poker Run was another huge success!

Oyster Bay Yacht Club Amelia Island 2012 Poker RunCaptain Benny had everyone in the party mood with Beach Music going at the Tiki Hut as the boaters & their guests set sail to enjoy a wonderful day on the water.

The boaters were enthusiastic and in high hopes of having a winning hand as they searched for the OBYC dealers at each stop which included the Amelia Island Yacht Basin, Fernandina Harbor, Cumberland Sound, St. Mary’s Marina and last stop OBYC.

The hungry crews started arriving at the club with their lucky hands around lunch time and were very happy to find an amazing feast by our very talented Chef Tim.The featured menu included southern barbeque ribs & chicken, buttermilk fried chicken, summer salad, baked beans, homemade potato salad, citrus cornbread and old fashioned peach cobbler.

In no time, toes were tapping to the sounds of 40 watt Mojo, one of the club’s favorite bands and enjoying a cool beverage poolside.   Having 40 Watt Mojo at the club is always a special treat, especially when OBYC member Mike Lopiano keeps the beat on the drums and Mark Deaton takes the mic to sing a few favorite tunes.

While the band took a quick break,  Mr. Pat Poteat AKA Mr. Wonderful,  took the mic to announce the lucky winners.  Prizes were awarded for best high & low hand to Team Julie Bennett and Team Tom & Betty Ann Johnson.

It was then time to kick up the volume and let the dancing begin!  It’s never easy to have the last song, so after the band said good night….I understand the party continued down at the Tiki Hut at the Marina.  However, you know what they say, what happens at the Tiki Hut stays at the Tiki Hut.

So, if you are someone who likes to know the rest of the story..make plans now to join us next year for the whole experience.

If you would like more details on upcoming club event or how you can become a member of the OBYC family, please contact me directly for resident and non resident membership details.

Bon Voyage

A Taste of Wine by Steve

The French region of Gascony is most famous for d’Artagnan, the fourth Musketeer; Armagnac, the local brandy; and foie gras. As for wine? Are you ready to have a summer fling that makes you feel like a giddy teenager.

Try the white wines of Tariquet, which is having a festive season itself in celebrating its 100th birthday this year.
Other wines Steve will introduce during this wine tasting, hail from Italy, California, Australia, Argentina and Spain.

In our classic style of perfection we will support the wine selections with Gourmet Cheeses, Crackers and lots of fresh fruits that will complement your tasting experience into Nirvana.

The brisk, juicy, absurdly refreshing Tariquet “Classic” Ugni Blanc-Colombard is part of the line up that Steve Razkin will present to our members on Staurday July 28 from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Oyster Bay Yacht Club.

Come and bring friends but let us know by Friday, July 20th
