European American Business Club meets at the Yacht ClubOn July 14, French Bastille Day, the six month old, rapidly growing European American Business Club in Nassau County, held its July meeting at the Oyster Bay Yacht Club Facilities. The Club, founded last January by Helmut Albrecht and Tim Burningham, has quickly grown into more than 60 members and some 40 members showed up, inspite of summer vacations.

This may sound like a “fish story” but it’s true with proof attached. After three night of stalking and two times losing him, my husband Craig and my son caught a 50lb 42” Big Red right here from the marina docks at the Oyster Bay Yacht Club around 8 pm on July 8, 2010.

The first time you see a Roseate Spoonbill, you have to wonder how this graceful bird eats. Even though John James Audubon was not the first American to paint all the continent’s birds, he was however the first one to give the answer to that question. Audubon loved to hide and watch birds for hours, studying how they behaved with nature, their species and food. He was particularly fond of the Spoonbill.

Earlier one morning I borrowed one of our host’s Mountain Bikes, (no there are no mountains in Northeast Florida), adjusted the Nikon 200 around my neck and took off for bike ride exploring the outer edges of this magnificent former waterfront plantation that in less naturally endowed parts of the country would be predicated as a Nature Preserve. As it is, Oyster Bay Harbour and Yacht Club is a dedicated Bird Sanctuary.
